Residential Care

St Louis Nursing Home is a family run residential care facility established in 1946 by the Naish family, the third generation of which currently work in the business.

At St Louis we aim to combine the aspects of normal home living with personal care support. A person usually chooses to enter a nursing home when they can no longer be totally independent in their own home and have a need for trained nursing care. This may follow a severe illness or long term difficulty, which has caused a change to their personal lifestyle.

St Louis offers accommodation in single rooms with en suite facilities, single rooms, and double rooms. Double rooms provide excellent accommodation for married couples. The home has a number of indoor and out door areas complimented by garden facilities, which are used to meet a variety of personal needs. The court yard provides an ideal setting for relaxing and meeting with relatives and friends.

The home offers quality care programs with differing focuses of care related to the changing resident needs and provides highly individualised care to the residents.

The philosophy and objectives of the home endeavour to uphold the dignity and respect of the individual, whilst taking into consideration their health and care needs. Prior to admission a negotiated package of care is undertaken to ensure that the actual care needs of the resident are supported by the resources within the programs. Ongoing assessment and support is offered so that the type of service given to residents best suits their individual care needs.

Residents of St Louis are encouraged and supported to retain and participate in social programs of their specific interests. A program coordinator is a member of the staff who assists and facilitates resident activities. Many residents are supported to continue to pursue their social interests in local community venues and are encouraged to consider holidays away from the home. Family pets also visit residents; Lulu the cat resides at St Louis.

Residents of St Louis have the supports of a multi lingual staff and the following languages are spoken, English, Polish, Italian, and Latvian.

If you are planning to enter a Nursing Home for the first time, you are bound to have many questions, should you require more information please contact the Care Coordinator on 8272 3344.

FURNITURE
All furniture is supplied by the Nursing Home.

RESIDENT FEES
There are three possible fees.

  1. The Basic Care fee which every resident must pay.
  2. An Accommodation Extra Service fee.
  3. Income Fee, which is assessed by either the Department of Social Security or the Department of Veteran Affairs on behalf of the Department of Health and Ageing.

All fees are set by the Department of Health and Ageing. The income testing rules for this process will be the same as those currently used to work out Pensions. More information is available from the Department of Social Security, INFORMATION ABOUT INCOME TESTING by making an appointment with a Financial Information Service Officer.

All non-pensioners are likely to require income testing upon entry to a facility. Residents do not have to agree to be assessed. However, if they choose not to be assessed they can be required to pay the maximum daily income test fee.

Forms for Option not to supply Information for Income Testing of Residential Care Fees are available from the Program Manager, Aged Care, Department of Health and Ageing, GPO Box 9848 in your capital city. Forms to revoke the above decision, I wish to Supply Information for Income Testing of my Residential Care fees, are available from the same source.
Full pensioners and part pensioners will have already been assessed for pension purposes. Therefore, in most cases will not require additional testing unless their circumstances have changed.

The Department of Social Security and Department of Veteran Affairs will advise the Department of Health and Ageing of the income assessment for each resident and the Department will then advise the Residential Program of both the maximum fees chargeable to, and the subsidies payable for each resident. Residents will also be advised by the Department of their fee information.

For more information RESIDENT FEES FOR NON PENSIONERS can be obtained by making an appointment with a Financial Information Service Officer with the Department of Social Security, Ph 13 10 21 or for languages other than English call 13 12 02.
