Equipment and mobility aids

Your home care package can be used to keep you safe and independent at home or for equipment to help you move around. By making a few small modifications or changes around your home and garden or looking at the options for walkers or mobility equipment, you may feel confident to live at home for longer. A quick phone call or conversation with our Home Support Care Coordinator will start the process to get an assessment done where you talk about your needs at home.

Equipment and modifications include:

  • Installing handrails in the bath, kitchen or anywhere else in your home
  • Installing ramps around the home where needed
  • Sensor and Path lights to help you find your way in the dark
  • Walkers, Hybrid Walkers, Walking frames, Sara Steady, Walking Sticks, Crutches
  • Wheelchairs, Lifters, Mobility Scooters
  • Shower chairs, hand rails, Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy
  • The handy bar (to get in and out of the car),
  • Medical alert devices

We’ll discuss your needs at home and together we will review the modifications, additions, or medical alert devices and mobility aids that you need to help you feel comfortable in your home. We can also arrange and coordinate these services.

How the right equipment at home helped Margaret to feel safer at home

Margaret had experienced several falls after a long illness, and she moves around her home with a walking frame. She feels safer when her husband is at home and would not leave her bedroom when he was not there. Her husband likes to play golf twice a week with his friends which is very important for his own health and wellbeing, during this time Margaret did not move anywhere until he returned home.

St Louis Home Care met with Margaret and her husband, and we assessed her home and suggested some modifications. We installed handrails in the kitchen and bathroom, and ramps in the front and back yards. Margaret now feels safe and comfortable venturing outdoors and spending time in the sunshine and fresh air at any time of the day even when her husband is not home.
