CEO News
Happy 2024 to you all. Summer is well underway and St Louis has been a very industrious place over the last few months. During the school holidays, my family and I enjoyed the ski fields in Japan with some friends, and let’s say, I’m not as young as I once was! I also caught some Tuna and sliced it up for our staff as you can see in the pictures.
Most of you would have seen the demolition, then construction and now a functioning 10 bed East Wing which we are very happy with. Please come and have a look if you are visiting us. And I invite you all to our GRAND OPENING on Wednesday 13th of March, where we will spend the afternoon in the garden to celebrate the joy this new wing brings – the new faces, the new building and the beautiful grounds. Please join us for afternoon tea and bubbles to officially say ‘we are open’!
23 Foster Street is almost complete for housing our AdministrationTeam. This office will be operational in April 2024.
Our homes in Victor Harbor that offer short stay respite are enjoying all the faces that come and go down there. We had tried to be part of the Christmas Pageant, but it was cancelled due to the rain. Based on the success of these homes, we have begun building another home on the Esplanade, in Aldinga. The views will be amazing and we look forward to seeing its progression from slab to house this year.
I also welcome all the new residents and their families to our home, and wish them comfort in their transition. If you have any feedback, please speak to one of our friendly staff as we are always looking for opportunities to improve. We have appointed a Consumer Representative,Anna who can be contacted via the forms in the café area.

Happy 2024 to you all. Summer flew by in the blink of an eye, and now we find ourselves embracing the arrival of Autumn. St Louis has been a very industrious place over the last few months.
You might have heard about the demolition, then construction at St Louis Nursing Home in Parkside, with the new 10 bed East Wing which we are very happy with. We enjoyed our grand opening with our residents and their families on the13th of March to celebrate the joy this new wing brings, the new faces, the new building, and the beautiful grounds.
Next door at 23 Foster Street is almost complete for housing our administration team. This office will be operational in April 2024.
Our homes in Victor Harbor that offer short stay respite are enjoying all the faces that come and go down there. The views will be amazing, and we look forwardto seeing its progression from slab to house this year.

Staff Recognition
We would like to congratulate Leah Pfeiffer (Enrolled Nurse at Victor Harbor) on her recognition award as a Qualified Aged Care Support Worker from ‘WE Care’ and Workforce Australia presented to her 6th of June at the Workforce luncheon. Leah was nominated by St Louis for her commitment, flexibility, and professional approach to the Fleurieu Home Care clients.

Jane has seen many changes during her time with Home Care and has been an integral part of the St Louis team, providing in home services to our clients over the past 22 years. Lifestyles
Even though we had plenty of rain this winter we still had fun times out and about. The Railway Museum in Port Adelaide was very enjoyable as we got to sit and chat in the old carriages and reminisce. We found some sun up in Mannum, where we took the ferry across the river and then enjoyed a lovely lunch at the Pretoria Hotel which overlooked the water.

Building News
Please excuse our mess! You may have noticed or heard that our Nursing Home in Parkside is undergoing some heavy construction for an exciting transformation. Extensive external work and lots of internal renovations all happening at the same time and in every direction, make this site a very busy and noisy place. We are on track to open our beautiful 10-bedroom wing in late November. Each week we tick something off the list that gets us closer to final completion. The latest is our newly refurbished and extended kitchen which is now up and running. The kitchen staff are pleased to be intheir new home and not in the kitchen we had in the car park area!
Social Program News
Well, even though we’ve had rain, more rain, then a bit more, we’ve still had some fun times out and about. We had a lunch time visit to the Bombay Bicycle which was enjoyed by all. It’s such an interesting place and worth a visit for some delicious Indian if you get a chance.
We’ve been braving the cold and rugging up to go for our walks around the neighbourhood when possible. Some of us have even managed to catch a bit of sun on these days. We enjoyed bus trips to Morphett Vale and did our regular shopping trip.

We have had a busy start to 2023 - does not look like slowing down anytime soon!
Here at St Louis, we are continuing our renewable energy campaign, taking delivery of three new Toyota Corolla hybrid vehicles in December for use in providing services to our Home Care clients. Three new Toyota RAV 4 hybrids are also due to arrive March 2023. These will replace our older vehicles. St Louis intends to transition to all plug in EV/hybrids and pure EVs from 2025.
We have also had additional solar panels and Tesla batteries installed at both St Louis Nursing Home and St Louis on Sea. Our first bill in Summer heat for St Louis on Sea was in credit which was great news for residents, the environment and shareholders! I highly recommend Class A Solar who do all our installs.
St Louis was recognised in a recent article in the Adelaide Advertiser as having the 3rd best meal survey results in SA This was part of the national "Resident Experience Survey" commissioned by the Department of Health for star ratings of 100% of nursing homes in Australia and is due to be done again in March this year. Well done to Anthony Bruce and his loyal team in the kitchen.
Building at St Louis
St Louis Nursing Home building works have finally commenced with demolition of the house at 17 Foster Street. A 10 bed wing will be constructed adjoining the existing home with expected completion in November 2023.

Social Program News
We have had an interesting time over the last couple of months. We have a new hairdresser on deck, as Lorraine is on maternity leave. Charles had big shoes to fill, but has proven to be excellent at what he does and all residents seem to be very happy with the magic he has managed with their hair. We welcome him as one of the team.
We are finding the building works to be fascinating and the builders are always happy for a chat when we pass on our morning walks! A lot of the residents are taking themselves to the new lounge to watch the progress.
We haven't had many bus trips recently due to high temperatures or rain. But did really enjoy a trip to Inglewood Inn where we enjoyed a lovely lunch.
We are still working on the mosaic bench. It is starting to take form and we are all enjoying the process of smashing stuff.
Morning walks are still popular when weather permits and we head out early as a rule to avoid the heat.

Victor Harbor Home Care Social Programs
We've had a busy few months with a lot of activities taking place. Our social lunches continue to be popular with clients telling me they enjoy the variety of food on offer as well as the opportunity to meet old and new friends around the table.
We stayed in the local area for some lunches, and ventured further out for others. We spent the day at Monarto along with clients from Adelaide. Although the day was wet, we all still enjoyed the tour and were lucky to see the recently born Lion Cubs.
We enjoyed a musical matinee, where we were treated to a trip down memory lane with the music of Gene Kelly and Judy Garland. We hope to see another performance in December.
We have a walking group starting in September. I hope you may consider joining us. Walking in a group is enjoyable, we can chat as we walk and walk at pace which suits you. Along the Encounter Bay foreshore, there are benches everywhere which will enable you/us to take a break as needed. I can even arrange for a carer to come with you if you would like that 1 :1 support. Or if you have a gopher and fancy joining us for some fresh air, great. We will finish off with at the Yilki store for a light meal. This group will be available on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays to enable more people to participate.
St Louis Nursing Home August/September 2022 Newsletter
In early August, St Louis received NDIS Provider Registration for our St Louis Homes model, with no non-conformances-major or minor, which is quite an achievement. This is a significant step along the path to St Louis extending our group homes model offering accommodation and services to people living with dementia, as we are currently doing at St Louis on Sea at our Victor Harbor beachfront location.
Three additional sites for St Louis Homes have been secured to extend the St Louis on Sea model of luxury, 8 bed homes in beautiful surroundings. Two sites are in Adelaide and one in regional SA. The Burnside site development application is currently with Council for approval.
Nursing Home Program News
It's been cold, so we decided to rug up for winter with a good cause. Staff and residents bought and wore our "Fight MND" beanies with pride. Maris even agreed to the "Big Freeze" challenge to help out. He got more than he bargained for, but all our residents loved the show. Large quantities of ice water were thrown over him in front of a very excited crowd. We are lucky the boss is such a good sport. After just two days of fundraising, we raised a total of $1646, an excellent effort by all. Thank you to the family members that chipped in. The residents are still wearing their beanies.

The residents have also been working on a mosaic bench seat for the courtyard. The design has been finalised and the colours picked. It was a very therapeutic afternoon for them when they got to smash up some tiles with a hammer and chisel. Don't worry, we all wore safety goggles and were under strict supervision. No fingers were lost! We are looking forward to seeing the finished result.
Our competitive side has been coming out recently; we have joined a program in which we compete against other nursing homes in virtual online games. Every month we compete in a group Quiz and a
"Wheel of Fortune" game. It is with up to 50 other nursing homes, and as it is done by Zoom. We can see the people we are competing against, as well as ourselves. The welcome and hello at the beginning when we connect is always a very exciting and happy start to the day. Both the games are great fun and we are getting better and better at them.

Very busy times at St Louis at the moment.
St Louis has obtained sites in Burnside and Port Lincoln to expand its St Louis On Sea model of home like care provision focussing on Dementia Care.
Completion of the Burnside project: named St Louis on Greenhill is scheduled for Spring 2023. Completion of the Port Lincoln project is scheduled for 2024.

Nursing Home Social Program News
We have been enjoying getting out and about over the last couple of months as restrictions have eased and the weather has improved (a little).
Our bus trippers enjoyed a lovely day at the George Wildlife Park recently and have been busy making Christmas decorations (proudly hanging on our tree) and wrapping paper. After the recent success (and fun) of our painting project, residents have suggested a similar project with the results to be auctioned and proceeds donated to Dementia Australia. We will be sending details of this out to you all in coming months.

Covid Management Update
One last thing on Covid is to remind you all that from the 6th December that anyone over 12 years of age who visits the home must be double vaccinated against Covid and have also had the 2021 flu vaccination. This is mandated by the Department of Health. Please speak to your extended friends and family about this.
Due to the uncertainty with COVID management have made the decision to refrain from large social gatherings. St Louis has had in the past a carols evening that was always very popular this was cancelled the last 2 years and won't happen again this year. We will still have the residents Christmas Dinner and other internal celebrations but will not have family attending these.
If you are taking your relative out for Christmas day, could you ring and inform Taula or Heather with an approximate pick up and return time. This will enable me to arrange staff on the day, so all residents are ready for families to collect.

Adelaide Home Care Social Programs
Hello Everyone! Well October and November have been very busy months for our home care clients, we have done so many social outings averaging on or over 1 O bus trips a month. Some of the places we have visited range from Devonshire tea aboard Popeye, Murray River Cruise, Terracotta planters for their homes, visiting beautiful garden nurseries, shopping, and High Teas. It is lovely to hear comments from our clients when they mention "there is too many social programs to choose from and they are out nearly every day having a great time & eating too much".

Social lunches continue the most popular activity on our monthly calendar- I think we need a Nickname of "The Lunchalots". Clients tell me they enjoy these lunches as it means they only need to prepare a light supper in the evening, and also because they are generally no longer than 2 hours.

Welcome to Spring Everyone
I am looking forward to seeing all of you and all the lovely gardens busting with flowering bulbs as well as the warmer weather which has already started. We have enjoyed some great social trips over the last 2 months with our Home Care clients, which have included Monarto Zoo, Maggie Beer Farm (cooking classes), Cleland Wildlife Park and building our own glass garden terrariums.

We have exciting visits coming up, such as the Jam Factory to see all the beautiful glass blown as well as our great Cockle Train Trip from Victor Harbour to Goolwa with lunch at Hectors on the Wharf, which I know everyone is really looking forward to.
We have great social programs coming, some of which include a Murray River cruise with lunch which departs from Murray Bridge, a concert with (Sweetbeat'n Harmony), we are also doing a Devonshire tea on Popeye, visiting Lyndoch Lavender Farm and another gardening day of potting up a terracotta pot to take home ... just to name a few.

Our clients continue to enjoy our social planned bus trips, which of course includes lunch in various locations; Milang Railway Museum, Strathalbyn Commercial Hotel, Colonnade's Tavern, and The Victor Harbor Hotel to name a few.

Our residents have been busy with plenty of activities and bus trips back on again. To make up for the cancellation of the Royal Adelaide Show we had our own show day with showbags, Animal Capers, and a visit from Bumbles the Clown.

Master Plan 2024 - Nursing Home
Dear St Louis residents, clients, family and friends. I am excited to announce that the Department of Health from 1/7/2024 has deregulated nursing home bed licenses.
This means that we will be able to substantially expand St Louis nursing home located at 21 Foster Street Parkside. St Louis owns 5000 square metres of land adjacent the nursing home, obtained over a number of years for precisely this purpose.
The heart of the expansion will be the large 26 square metre rooms based on the new east wing constructed last year which evaluations and feedback have shown to be extremely popular.

Nursing Home Update
Over the last month most of you will have had a conversation with either Jane or me to discuss continence hygiene management after a recent complaint was made to the Commission.
I would just like to reassure you all that our care staff act in a safe, respectful manner to all our residents. Incontinence is never an easy area to manage for anyone especially the incontinent person. Carers are always mindful of ensuring the residents feel safe and secure and any psychological impact is limited. They are the ones dealing with the residents on a day-to-day basis and know them well.

Adelaide Home Care Social Programs
Now the cooler days are upon us, it's more important than ever to get out and about so those muscles don't fade away. Not only for your muscles but also for your mind. They don't call it winter blues for nothing.
We really are a friendly bunch and if you've ever wondered if maybe you might like to try a bus trip or an activity, I urge you to give it a try. If you don't enjoy it, at least you've given it a shot. If you would like to meet me first, I'm always very happy to come out and meet with you. Sometimes it can make you feel much more comfortable putting a face to a name of someone who will be present at an outing.
Victor Harbor Home Care Social Programs
Armchair exercises have been added to our Activity calendar, with great feedback from our clients who have attended. Armchair exercises offer many benefits, improved flexibility and posture, reduces tension and stress to name a few. Morning tea and group conversations then follow. This activity will be run fortnightly on Wednesdays from 10.30am -12.00 noon. Phone 8552 1481 to book your spot!

Changing faces at St Louis Nursing Home
After 16 years of dedicated service our lovely Ancillary Coordinator, June, has decided it is time for a change. On 25th June she will leave St Louis to devote more time to friends, family, good shows and books and all creatures great and small at the RSPCA!
June will be greatly missed at St Louis by residents and staff alike, but we would like to take the opportunity to thank her for her generosity of spirit and tireless efforts over the last 16 years and wish her every possible happiness in her future adventures.

Nursing Home Social Program News
We have been taking advantage of the nice weather and had a BBQ lunch at Mclaren Vale. The group enjoyed the drive and the smell of the BBQ as it cooked. Thanks to John who supervised the cooking and helped me undo the lid on the beetroot jar!
The activities have been focusing on Easter and we have a free raffle for residents and plenty of activities, including making Easter bonnets, Egg hunt and more.
Visiting Hours
A reminder also that our visiting times continue tobe between 2.00pm-4.30pm Monday to Saturday. No visitors on Sundays please unless pre-arrange. We would appreciate your compliance with the visiting times. This is purely to minimise the disruption to resident care when staff must book people in at odd times.

If you are looking for ways to meet new people and get out of the house, please consider our "Walk and Talk" sessions. We plan to continue our walks (weather permitting) during the colder months, and will ensure that we have suitable locations offering somewhere warm to shelter and enjoy a tea or coffee.
Our Art classes are also a great way to meet new people and a perfect opportunity to try something different. Sessions are held every 2nd Thursday at our Marryatville office and conducted by Alan, a qualified Art Therapist. Always a fun time and sandwiches to finish so no-one should go home hungry. You can come to one session, or every fortnight!

Our social program has made a great comeback so far this year. Everyone is raring to go out and enjoy the fresh air! Whilst we are unable to access our St Louis bus due to social distancing regulations, we have engaged Kanga coachlines to assist. I have found them to be both reliable and professional. This has affected the cost of the trips but we are still able to safely be out and about having a great day which is more important.
January highlights included a lunch at the Seacliff Surf Club and a 'walk n talk' in the Botanic Gardens where we all enjoyed a lovely day in a beautiful place and finished with a well earned cuppa.

Care-App
We look forward to commencing using the Care-App with you all early in 2018. This will enabled you to see what your loved ones are up to at all times. It is powerful tool for keeping everyone involved in the lives of people when you can't be with them 24 hours a day.
Nursing Home Social Programs
Coming up in January, we have a representative from ARAS coming to our residents meeting. Relatives are most welcome to attend. We will be having a BBQ on the 25th of January and hopefully a visit from a petting zoo. On Australia Day, we will be having Aussie themed activities.
We will be saying farewell to Reverend Martyn Woodsford who has been conducting our monthly church service. he is going back to the UK to live in February.
Adelaide Home Care Social Programs
January and February's calendar I have focused on places where we can stay cool. I hope you all like all my choices but any suggestions are always welcome - just simply ask. In the next couple of months, I would like to visit a fuchsia nursery which was a suggestion made to me.
Victor Harbor Home Care Social Programs
Victor Harbor had a very busy but fabulous December. We were honoured to be invited to the Victor Harbor local Christmas pageant, which saw the very decorated St Louis bus filled with happy clients and escorted by St Louis elves, It was great to see the clients having so much fun and spreading Christmas Cheer.

Home Care News
St Louis is happy to announce that the Australian Aged Care Quality Agency has recently advised St Louis that our accreditation has been extended for an additional 12months due to our history of "consistent and sustained compliance with the Accreditation Standards".
Social Program
Our bus trips have been plentiful and I hope the venues have been of interest to many of you.
Last month we visited the zoo with Frank and Suzie and a great day was had by all. We also had a wonderful afternoon tea at a local bakery which was lovely and quiet so everyone could engage in the conversations. The lunchtime concert at Elder Hall was music to our ears but I must remember to get there earlier. We all had our running shoes on in the end.

With summer rapidly approaching we would urge all our home care clients and families to review arrangements for extreme heat, blackout and bushfire emergencies. If you require any assistance with preparing and emergency plan, do not hesitate to contact your coordinator.

St Louis has welcomed a new Home Care Coordinator, Daryl Carson. Daryl has extensive aged care experience with ACH and Uniting Care Wesley.
St Louis has had solar panels fitted with a view to reducing power bills and creating a cleaner, greener footprint.
Social Program
Our entertainers this month have been Sandy McMenamin a fantastic pianist and vocalist whom everybody thoroughly enjoyed. We also have a visit coming up from some Glenunga High School students, who are going to do a small concert then meet and greet with the residents.
The Crows and Port showdown is in round 20 and is always a fun day. Staff dress up and we have footy donuts and a footy inspired lunch of pies and chips. In the afternoon we have sport related activities, with friendly rivalry between supporters! Go the Crows!

Men’s Club is held every Friday at 2pm at the nursing home. Bus trips, outings, activities, guest speakers and more.
