Since 1946, our St Louis nursing home situated in leafy Parkside in Adelaide, has been providing high quality care for elderly Australians.

What does it mean to provide Extra Services in aged care?

The Aged Care Pricing Commissioner (ACPC)

ultimately approves any changes to standard aged care service offerings. Their definition of extra-service is the following:

“Extra Services involves the provision of a significantly higher than average standard of services including accommodation, the range and quality of food and non-care services such as recreational and personal interest activities.”

How St Louis became Extra Service aged care provider

After 70+ years of providing high quality aged care, we were invited to apply and were required to meet several criteria to receive accreditation. The accreditation was issued by the Department of Health who assessed our operation and services, and subsequently granted us the status because of our exceptional compliance history.

We are very proud of the fact we were the first in Adelaide to be granted Extra Service status.

What extras do you receive from our Extra Service aged care package?

Where some nursing homes in Adelaide offer additional services at an additional fee, we offer Extra Services as part of the package, so there are no additional fees to pay. The ACPC had approved our Extra Service fees and these are set, we can only change them by applying to the ACPC. Therefore you have peace of mind knowing these will not change for some time and if they do you will be well-informed ahead of time.

Our services include:

Boutique accommodation in a smaller 45 bed residence that feels like home
Single rooms with garden views, a private ensuite, air conditioning, and smart TV’s
State of the art Wibo beds with pumpless air mattresses in all rooms
Meal choices for lunch and dinner with bottled wine, beer and drinks in the dining room or courtyard. Meals are cooked onsite daily with fresh ingredients.

A higher level of care and 100% St Louis staff

The care team at St Louis are all employees, trained to our high quality of aged care standards. We don’t use agencies and we pride ourselves on our low staff turnover - 37% of staff have been here for 5 years or more, and 17% have been here for 10 years or more. This is unique in our industry which normally experiences higher staff turnover.

Our rosters are created to provide responsive care rather than reactive care to our residents. We have a higher than average staff to resident ratio in our industry and the number varies depending on the situation. For example, we put more staff on to provide one to one care for a palliative care resident, for a resident who has had a fall and for residents who are new and transitioning to the nursing home.

Providing Extra Service aged care does not necessarily mean it’s more expensive, we prefer to say it is better value for money. We do not charge additional fees as the additional services are all part of the package.

A combination of the Refundable Accommodation Deposit (RAD) and Daily Accommodation Payment (DAP) means we can find ways to make moving into our nursing home affordable.
