How our dementia care helped George contribute to his family home
As someone who was always healthy, fit, active and a keen fisherman, George, 79, found living with dementia very frustrating. His wife was finding it more challenging to care for him. After a long stay in hospital due to an illness, his family realised they could not bring him home immediately and sought professional care. He spent two weeks in respite care at St Louis on Sea, this was covered by funds in his home care support plan.
With attentive care, our support staff helped him uncover skills to use in his daily life. When he first arrived at St Louis on Sea, he was unhappy about living away from his wife. After a few days with specialised support tailored to George’s needs, he started to improve, he became happier and more settled, he also started to enjoy participating in daily activities around the house.
Now George is back at home with his wife and contributing to the household in ways he didn’t before. With continued dementia support and care by the St Louis home care team, George is finding renewed enthusiasm for participating in many activities at home, and his family are enjoying that he has been able to live at home for longer. There is even talk of including some social time fishing in his home care plan!
